The Details

Johor Industrial Fair 2026 runs 19–21 August 2026, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, at Austin International Convention Centre (AICC) in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru. The organiser is FBI Publications (M) Sdn Bhd (source: johorexpo.com, the organiser's own site, checked July 2026).

Two things to know before you turn up:

  • Admission is free, but trade only. You register for a visitor badge online in advance, or on-site with a business card.
  • Under-16s are not admitted. This is not a family day out — it is a manufacturing and industrial automation trade show.

Why This Post Exists

Most JB accommodation writing is aimed at tourists and Causeway day-trippers. Trade-show travel is a different problem: you are here on a company per-diem or your own margin, you need three nights near a convention centre, and you would rather not burn RM250 a night on a business hotel to sleep six hours between stand duty and dinner.

Getting to AICC From Central JB

AICC is in Mount Austin, east of the city centre — not walkable from anywhere you would normally stay as a visitor. From Taman Pelangi it is a Grab ride; budget 20–30 minutes in morning traffic, and order earlier than you think on the first morning of a fair.

If you are driving in from Senai Airport or from the Causeway, Mount Austin is straightforward on the Tebrau highway corridor.

What a Bed Costs

At Pelangi Capsule Hostel in Taman Pelangi, a capsule pod is RM30 for a first-time guest's first night and RM35 per night after that; repeat guests pay RM35 throughout. Malaysia Tourism Tax of RM10 per room per night applies to foreign tourists only — Malaysians and permanent residents are exempt.

For a three-night fair, that is RM100 in room charges for a first-time Malaysian guest. Each pod is an enclosed space with a door that locks from the inside, personal air-conditioning, a reading light, USB charging and a power socket, plus a locker in the pod room. Free WiFi throughout, including inside the pods — adequate for email and video calls.

The Practical Bits for Trade Travel

  • Check-in from 2:00 PM, check-out by 12:00 PM. Self check-in runs 24 hours with no curfew, so a late arrival the night before setup is fine.
  • Free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out — useful if your flight out is in the evening of the last day.
  • Food. Taman Pelangi is surrounded by kopitiam, mamak and restaurants; a local breakfast runs RM3–8. See the Jalan Perang food guide.
  • Receipts. Ask at check-in if you need something for a claim.

One Caveat

A capsule pod is a shared-bathroom, single-occupancy space. If you are hosting clients, or need to take confidential calls in your room, book a hotel — this is the wrong product for that. If you just need somewhere clean and secure to sleep between fair days, it does the job at a fraction of the price.

Book

Fair weeks tighten up JB's budget beds, so book ahead rather than walking in. Check availability and book directly — no booking fee, no OTA commission. Other dated JB events are in the events calendar.
