Getting to JB: Transport Options
- Causeway Link CW1 bus — RM2.60 one-way from Woodlands Bus Interchange (Singapore) to JB CIQ. Most convenient for foot passengers. Return ticket available at JB CIQ terminal. Going cashless from 1 Oct 2026: EZ-Link, ManjaLink, or another contactless card only — no more cash fares.
- Grab from JB CIQ — after clearing Malaysian immigration, Grab to Taman Pelangi takes 10–15 min (~RM8–12). Book via the Grab app using your Singapore number.

- Malaysia — MDAC: submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online before you cross. It is free.

Visa Run or Extend Your Singapore Stay?
A visa run is not your only option. ICA accepts online applications to extend a Short-Term Visit Pass (walk-ins are not accepted). You can apply once the pass has 14 days or less of validity left. ICA looks at each case — for example why you need to stay longer and whether you have immediate family who are Singapore citizens or permanent residents — so approval is never guaranteed.
- Occasional reset (a few times): an overnight JB stay is the usual route.
- Need weeks or months more: consider an extension, or a proper long-term pass — repeated back-to-back entries can attract extra questions at the checkpoint.

Can I do a same-day visa run from Singapore to JB?
Yes — cross into Malaysia, wait a few hours, and return. Immigration accepts this. However, queue times are unpredictable: a same-day run can easily consume 4–6 hours. Overnight is less stressful and costs only ~SGD10 more.
What bus goes from Woodlands Bus Interchange to JB CIQ?
Causeway Link CW1. One-way fare RM2.60 (~SGD0.80). It departs frequently from Woodlands Bus Interchange (5 min walk from Woodlands MRT) and goes directly to JB CIQ terminal. From 1 October 2026, CW1 goes cashless — EZ-Link, ManjaLink, or another contactless card only.
What is the MDAC and do I need it for a JB visa run?
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) has been mandatory since 1 January 2024 and is still required at land checkpoints, including Woodlands-side and Tuas-side CIQ. Submit it online within 3 days before you arrive — it's free. Singapore citizens are exempt at every entry point, but EP/S Pass holders and every other nationality doing a JB visa run must complete it before crossing.
Is the RTS Link open yet, and does the delay affect my visa run?
No. On 2 October 2026 the operator said passenger service is now expected around the end of February 2027, instead of end-2026, pending safety certification and approvals from both governments. That date is an estimate. Until it opens, visa runs use the Causeway — CW1 bus, KTM Shuttle, Grab or your own vehicle.
Do I need an SG Arrival Card when I return to Singapore after a visa run?
Yes. ICA requires all travellers except long-term pass holders to submit the SG Arrival Card with Electronic Health Declaration within three days before arriving in Singapore, including the arrival day. It is free and is not a visa.
Can I extend my Singapore stay instead of doing a visa run?
Sometimes. ICA accepts online extension applications once your Short-Term Visit Pass has 14 days or less left, and decides each case on its circumstances, so it is not guaranteed.
Is doing frequent visa runs to JB risky in 2026?
An occasional overnight reset is routine. But Malaysian media reported that nationwide immigration operations from 1 January to 9 March 2026 recorded 2,618 operations and 9,497 arrests overall, with 1,158 detained specifically for Social Visit Pass abuse under Regulation 39(b). Immigration is reported to use data analytics to flag repeat fast entry-exit patterns for extra questioning — worth knowing if you expect to need more than a handful of resets.
When are the Causeway queues worst?
Monday to Friday 7–9 AM and 5–8 PM are peak hours. Friday evenings and public holiday eves are the worst. The best window is Tuesday to Thursday, 10 AM–2 PM. The Tuas Second Link is usually less congested than the Woodlands Causeway.
Can EP or S Pass holders do a visa run to JB?
Yes. EP/S Pass holders have long-term Singapore work permits and are not subject to Singapore's tourist entry limits. However, if their Malaysia Social Visit Pass is expiring, they still need to exit and re-enter Malaysia to reset it — exactly what a JB visa run does.
Do I need to bring proof of accommodation?
