What's happening
The quick version for visitors.
Johor holds its 16th State Assembly election with polling on Saturday 11 July 2026. Early voting for police and military personnel takes place on 7 July, and campaigning runs until 11:59 PM on 10 July.
Polling day is a public holiday in Johor state only — declared so workers can return to their home constituencies to vote. For travellers, the election is a spectacle rather than a disruption: expect flags and banners everywhere, lively kopitiam conversations, and a busier-than-usual border.
