Why Johor Bahru for Indian Travelers

Exceptional Value

RM35 = ₹630 = USD 7.50 per night. A fraction of what Singapore hotels cost. JB gives you a modern, safe city at a fraction of the price.

Familiar Food

Mamak stalls, banana leaf rice, roti canai, dosai, and briyani are everywhere. JB's Indian food scene rivals South Indian cities. Vegetarian options at every corner.

Gateway Location

10 minutes from CIQ border to Singapore. Easy day trips to KL (4h bus), Melaka (2h), and Desaru beaches. Perfect regional base.

Malaysia is one of India's top five outbound travel destinations, and Johor Bahru is the entry point for millions who cross from Singapore. Indian IT professionals working in Singapore often spend weekends here — the exchange rate alone makes JB feel like a holiday upgrade. At Pelangi Capsule Hostel, you get a Japanese-style capsule pod with a locking door, premium mattress, air-conditioning, and free WiFi for less than the cost of an auto ride across Chennai.

Getting to JB from India

Chennai → JB

AirAsia and IndiGo fly Chennai (MAA) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL). From KUL TBS terminal, take a direct JB bus (4h, RM25–35). Or fly Chennai to Senai Airport (JHB) if direct flights are available on your dates.

Bangalore / Hyderabad → JB

Fly to KUL via AirAsia, then take the bus from TBS to JB Sentral (Larkin) or JBCC. Grab from the bus terminal to Pelangi Capsule Hostel is RM8–12.

Mumbai / Delhi → JB

Multiple carriers (Air India, AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines) connect to KUL in 5–6h. From KUL, bus or domestic flight to JB. Grab within JB is under RM15 from most entry points.

Via Singapore (common route for SG-based Indians)

Take the Causeway Link CW1 bus from Queen St Terminal or Woodlands CIQ to JB Sentral. From JB Sentral, Grab to Taman Pelangi takes 10–15 minutes and costs RM8–12.

Tip: Book a Grab from Larkin Sentral terminal or JBCC (City Square) directly to Taman Pelangi. The hostel address is 26A Jalan Perang, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru.
