Which app should I sign up for first? The honest answer for Johor Bahru in 2026: it depends on your vehicle, your licence, and which hours you can actually work. Each platform has a different sweet spot, and the drivers earning the most here run two or three of them in rotation rather than staying loyal to one.

This post puts the three main platforms side by side, with the requirements taken from each company's official driver page, then shows you the stacking pattern that works in JB.

The Big Comparison

ShopeeFood also operates food delivery in parts of Malaysia, but its JB rider coverage and terms change frequently — check availability in the Shopee app before counting on it. We have left it out of the earnings table rather than quote numbers we cannot stand behind.

Barrier to Entry: Who Can Start This Week

Foodpanda is the fastest start. Official requirements are minimal: age 18+, Malaysian citizen, a motorcycle with valid licence (P licence accepted) and roadtax, a smartphone, and a bank account. Lalamove is the best pay-per-job with a normal licence. No PSV needed for parcel delivery — bike, car, van, 4x4, or lorry, with a GDL only for van and lorry classes. Approval takes about 3–5 days including virtual training. Full walkthrough in our Lalamove driver guide.

Grab has the highest hurdle but the steadiest demand. The PSV licence and EVP take real effort (currently subsidised by Grab), and your car must be under 15 years old and registered in your name. The Stacking Strategy: One Day, Three Apps

The pattern that keeps showing up among the gig workers who stay with us:

A motorcycle rider can stack Lalamove and Foodpanda with nothing but a standard licence. Add Grab only if you have a qualifying car and are ready for the PSV step — it is the highest fixed investment but fills the evening slot best.

What This Adds Up To

Stacked across a full week in JB, part-timers working evenings and weekends typically land in the RM1,500–2,500/month band, and full-timers running the three-app rotation report RM2,500–4,000 before petrol. The single biggest difference between the two ends of that range is not speed or luck — it is fixed costs and hours worked. Which brings us to rent.
